Introduction of filter press cloth

Filter press cloth is a crucial core component in filter press equipment, and its role mainly revolves around the core objective of “solid-liquid separation”, which can be divided into the following key aspects: 

1. Core Role: Realizing Solid-Liquid Separation 

This is the most basic and critical function of the filter cloth. When the press filtration, the suspension containing solid particles (such as sludge, slurry) is pumped into the filter chamber of the filter press, the filter cloth with its porous structure to let the liquid (filtrate) through, the solid particles (cake) intercepted on the surface, to achieve solid-liquid separation. For example, in wastewater treatment, sludge is filtered through the filter cloth to discharge water, leaving a dry sludge cake; in the mining industry, slurry is processed through the filter cloth to separate mineral particles and wastewater. 

2. Supporting the filter cake to ensure the separation efficiency 

Filter cloth can intercept solid particles, provide support for the filter cake to avoid deformation or rupture under pressure, and ensure the stability of the filter cake structure. At the same time, the pore distribution and permeability of the filter cloth affect the thickness, dryness and filtration speed of the cake: if the pores are too dense, the filtration speed will be slow but the cake will be drier; if the pores are too sparse, the filtration speed will be fast but there may be fine particles lost with the filtrate, which will affect the separation effect. 

3. Protect the filter plate, prolong the life of the equipment 

The filter plate of the filter press is usually made of plastic, cast iron and other materials, which is hard but easy to be abraded by sharp solid particles. Filter cloth covering the surface of the filter plate can play a buffer and isolation, reduce the direct friction and impact of particles on the filter plate, thus extending the service life of the filter plate and reducing the cost of equipment maintenance.

4. Auxiliary cake unloading, improve operation convenience 

High-quality filter cloth has good release properties (non-stick cake), when the filter press is completed, the cake can fall off from the surface of the filter cloth more easily, reduce the workload of manual cleanup, improve the efficiency of cake unloading, and ensure the continuous and stable operation of the filter press.

Filter press cloth is the separation medium for the whole process of solid-liquid separation, and it is also the key component to protect the equipment and improve efficiency. Its performance (material, porosity, corrosion resistance, etc.) directly affects the filter press filtration effect, energy consumption and operating costs, so according to the characteristics of the filter material (particle size, corrosion, temperature, etc.) to choose the right filter cloth.
